Apptix adds on-demand Microsoft’s Windows SharePoint Services [UC Newsdesk 2003/4/22]
Apptix announced the launch of an on-demand service over the net for Microsoft’s Windows SharePoint Services. Using Apptix’s hosted solution, users, service providers and resellers will be able to quickly and easily deploy Windows SharePoint Services. This next-generation solution for Web-based file sharing and team collaboration is currently in Beta 2 and will be available in mid-2003. Windows SharePoint Services is the engine for creating Web sites that enable information sharing and document collaboration, increasing individual and team productivity. SharePoint sites take file storage to a new level, from saving files to sharing information. These sites provide communities for team collaboration, empowering users to collaborate on documents, tasks, contacts, events and other information. Products of the new Microsoft Office System -- including Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003, Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003, and Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 -- are designed to use Windows SharePoint Services as a central workspace and take advantage of its new functionality. The Apptix solution leverages TECOS(r) 4.0, Apptix’s service automation and management platform, to enable easy and flexible deployment, administration and application development of Windows SharePoint Services. The combination of TECOS – which delivers software as an on-demand service through full technology automation, standardization and self-provisioning -- and Windows SharePoint Services creates a powerful platform for resellers, service providers and solution providers to create and deliver collaborative solutions to their users. "Microsoft has selected Apptix as a key Windows SharePoint Services Beta 2 hosting partner because of the flexibility of its TECOS software and Apptix’s operational expertise on the Microsoft .NET platform," said Mike Gelon, Director of Information Workers Servers Product Management for Microsoft Corp. "With Apptix making Windows SharePoint Services available on a software-as-a-service basis, customers of our next-generation Microsoft Office System programs can experience the dramatically enhanced integration of Office 2003 with an entirely new and powerful set of Web services and Web collaboration tools." "We have selected Apptix’s offering for Windows SharePoint Services as the foundation for our CorasWorks collaboration solutions for business customers," said William Rogers, CEO of Coras Consulting, LLC, a solution provider based in Northern Virginia. "Using the new Windows SharePoint Services on TECOS we are able to automatically provision online collaborative solutions for our clients and feel confident in the reliability, security, and availability of the service. TECOS gives us the flexibility we need to develop and deliver the custom solutions that our customers require. Using Apptix’s services we were able to cut the launch time for CorasWorks from many months to weeks." "The launch of on-demand services for Windows SharePoint Services demonstrates the power and flexibility of TECOS 4.0," said Alex Hawkinson, CEO of Apptix. "By using TECOS we were able to develop and launch this new service in less than 30 days with a completely automated provisioning and service management system. Windows SharePoint Services on-demand brings the benefits of advanced collaboration to customers and creates a great new revenue opportunity for Apptix and its service provider partners."
