IBM Introduces High-End eServer Systems with New On Demand Features [UC Newsdesk 2003/5/6]
IBM has introduced its new UNIX server, the IBM eServer p690 system that provides a 65 percent performance boost over its predecessor. The new server includes new on demand features that gives users flexibility in turning capacity on and off as well as test-driving additional capacity before paying to use it.
The New On Demand features include: Memory on Demand -- Capacity Upgrade on Demand for Memory allows users to activate memory in 4GB increments as needed. Try and Buy -- IBM offers a 30-day trial at no additional charge of capacity upgrades for both memory and processors. Users can test the capacity they will actually need and activate it, permanently or temporarily, only when they need it. Software on Demand -- IBM plans to price select software for pSeries by the day when temporary capacity is turned on by the user. "Customers want the capacity they need when they need it instead of paying for systems that sit idle or cannot scale at times of peak demand," said Adalio Sanchez, general manager of IBM eServer pSeries. In addition to the new high-end eServer p690, IBM introduced the new mid-range eServer p670 system and a new ultra-dense high performance eServer p655 both with significant performance improvements over previous versions.
