Computer Associates launches Sonar to measure on-demand computing
[UC Newsdesk 2003/7/14]

Computer Associates have announced a new technology to discover and manage business processes, code-named “Sonar,” and four new solutions across its Unicenter, eTrust and BrightStor brands.

The company claims that Sonar enables a “complete understanding of the on-demand infrastructure and its impact on the business.” Using “agentless” intelligence technology, Sonar correlates business processes to the supporting IT assets, thereby aligning IT infrastructure investments with business priorities. The aim is to insert business relevance to IT management by performing advanced root-cause analysis, assessing the business impact of any infrastructure failure, and pinpointing critical security issues and their causes.

“At its core, on-demand computing is a management issue. It's not about hardware, operating systems, or business applications. It's about how to make all these components work together in a highly adaptable way,” said Sanjay Kumar, CA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “With Sonar and our on-demand management solutions, CA is fully empowering customers to make on-demand computing a reality regardless of the underlying server, storage, or operating system platforms they have in place - something no other company can do.”

CA will incorporate Sonar across its family of managing on-demand computing solutions.

“Achieving the flexibility and improved ROI promised by on-demand computing requires that we manage our infrastructure based on end-to-end business processes, not as islands of technology," said George Fiedorowicz, vice president of technology operations at Concord EFS, Inc., a leading electronic payments processor.
