Linux Enterprise Environments not neglected by the Utility Computing Vendors [UC Newsdesk 2003/8/5]
Veritas Software has announced new clustering tools that help IT organizations evolve toward a utility computing model on the Linux platform. Veritas Cluster Server agents are now available to enable fast automated recovery and increase the availability of Linux enterprise environments running IBM DB2, MySQL and Oracle databases. The company claims that increased service levels can now be achieved by constantly monitoring the health of databases with Veritas Cluster Server agents in conjunction with technologies that manage server and application performance and automate server provisioning. "MySQL is an increasingly vital component of enterprise IT infrastructures, and through our partnership with VERITAS, MySQL users on the Linux platform now have a compelling new enterprise software solution," said Marten Mickos, CEO, MySQL AB. "VERITAS Cluster Server brings enterprise-class high availability to MySQL, which is especially important for databases that run large-mission critical systems and a key building block for utility computing environments." "Linux adoption is growing rapidly in the enterprise as customers look for ways to benefit from open source technology and dramatically lower IT hardware costs. At the same time, IT's need for lower management costs and fast, reliable access to data must remain a priority," said Robin Purohit, vice president of product management, Veritas Software. " Veritas helps customers realize the cost advantages of Linux without compromising core IT requirements, which translates into greater efficiencies and better service levels for the customer. That's the promise of utility computing."
