Verari Systems acquires MPI Software Technology Inc. [UC Newsdesk 2004/4/12]
Verari Systems, a developer of platform-independent blade computing systems, has announced the acquisition of MPI Software Technology Inc., a provider of high-performance software solutions for managing parallel and cluster computers. The acquisition is part of a new strategy for Verari, which was previously known as RackSaver, to change its focus from making rack-optimized servers and high-performance workstations to developing blade server systems for utility computing. The company also announced two new patents on thermal management technology, Vertical Cooling System (VCS), enabling substantial increase to blade density. Additionally, Verari Systems expanded its management team to include Masood Jabbar as a Director, Jabbar was a former president of computer systems and executive vice president of global sales operations at Sun Microsystems. The company has changed its name from RackSaver to Verari Systems with the new strategic announcements to better represent its position as a integrated blade computing systems provider. Verari Systems' existing customers include Boeing, ConocoPhillips, Industrial Light and Magic, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, NASA, NVIDIA, Northrop Grumman, Novartis, Pixar, Shell Gas and Oil and Veritas DGC. NVIDIA Corporation, a current Verari Systems customer, noted: "NVIDIA is dedicated to creating the best graphics and communications processors in the industry, and a key factor in achieving our goals is the high performance computing technology that we use," said Joe Sura, Vice President of Information Technology. "Verari Systems is a major technology partner of ours today, and I'm excited about their new products and looking forward to enhancing our partnership in the future." "I’m proud to join CEO David Driggers and other members of the Verari Systems management team,” said Masood Jabbar, Director. “The company has a proven track record of delivering solutions for the most demanding data center customers in the world, and its MPI Software Technology Inc. acquisition and patented cooling technology place Verari Systems in a unique position of strength in the marketplace." The MPI Software Technology Inc. executive team and staff will join Verari Systems and immediately collaborate on integrating the companies’ offerings. The integration of MPI Software Technology Inc.’s software suites for managing and programming parallel applications in high-performance computing environments will be a critical focus area. Verari Systems’ software division will continue to offer its software solutions to existing customers as well as new customers who use blade cluster technology from Verari Systems or other providers. "Verari Systems is a significant independent player in the fast growing blade server market," said Mark Melenovsky, IDC Research Director, Global Enterprise Server Solutions. "The company has had a number of large customer wins and the acquisition of MPI Software Technology Inc. further positions them to deliver value-add server management, provisioning and virtualization layers for their enterprise customers."
