When Michael Dell first begun trading in 1984, he was knocking on what appeared to be a very firmly closed door. Between them, HP, IBM and Compaq controlled an overwhelming majority of the PC industry. Dell's newbie firm raised very few concerns amongst the giants of the thriving desktop industry.

Founded by former Oracle executive, Marc Benioff in 1999, Salesforce.com proves that there remains at least one CRM provider that can boast an impressive customer acquisition rate of late. Fergus Gloster, VP of Marketing and Business Development, points out that Salesforce.com won more new customers last year than PeopleSoft, Siebel, Oracle and SAP combined.

Veritas Software extends it's Utility Computing offering through latest acquisition
Veritas Software has announced the acquisition of Precise Software Solutions. The aggregate value of the merger consideration is approximately $609 million, consisting of approximately $400 million in cash and 7.4 million shares of VERITAS common stock, subject to final tabulation by VERITAS' exchange agent. With 22 consecutive quarters of revenue growth, Precise Software leads the application performance management (APM) market, a high-growth market that industry analysts predict will grow to $4.92 billion by 2006.

HP introduces On Demand solution for Disk Arrays and adds to its Storage Services
HP has announced enhancements to its Pay-per-use solution for HP StorageWorks XP disk arrays, allowing customers to pay based on actual storage capacity usage. They have also released five new services aimed at helping companies manage heterogeneous storage environments.

IBM brings Chip Designs to On Demand
IBM has announced a service for chip designers and verification engineers that will provide access to select tools on an as-need basis. Using a webportal, engineers will no longer need to purchase, house or maintain the latest computer systems and software for chip design and formal verification but will be able to access these capabilities from IBM as a service.

MetiLinx, has announced they have joined the HP OpenView Solutions Alliance Program at the Solution Partner level with their integration of MetiLinx's flagship iSystems Enterprise software with HP's OpenView Service Navigator. Veritas Aims To Enable Utility Computing With New Server Provisioning Software
Veritas Software has introduced Veritas OpForce 3.0, the latest version of its automated server provisioning software that aims to reduce the time, costs and resources traditionally needed to deploy servers in IT environments. Based on technology from the acquisition of Jareva Technologies earlier this year, the product is designed to improve the utilization of existing IT environments by intelligently provisioning resources such as servers, switches and load balancers across computer networks.
