EDS introduces myCOE, a utility-based desktop solution [UC Newsdesk 2003/8/20]
EDS has announced its new utility-based desktop solution - myCOE (my Consistent Office Environment) - a key component in delivering “pay-for-use” computing. EDS has worked closely with Microsoft to develop this new user-centric service. myCOE eliminates up-front IT capital investment costs and replace it with incremental costs on a pay-for-use basis. This tailoring of services allows organizations of any size to choose their applications and services for users based on job roles and individuals' personal preferences, using only what they need, when they need it. The offering enables business agility by providing visibility into IT costs at the point of consumption. Business users can make the direct link between IT investment and business value, and can remove the cost of excess capacity to scale up or down as business situations demand. myCOE uses a robust web portal interface to provision and automate delivery of desktop applications and services. myCOE utilizes a combination of committed baseline service bundles, monthly subscription pricing for intermittently used applications (project or collaboration tools for example), and a per service incident or capacity rate structure for consumption-based services such as storage, help desk, online training and other applications. It provides anytime, anywhere secure seamless access to support mobile workers, e-business and multi-provider environments using a wide variety of access devices. “EDS and Microsoft worked closely together to automate deployment tasks for Windows XP, Office and other desktop applications,” said Chris Jones, vice president, Microsoft Windows Client Core Platforms Division. “EDS built an innovative solution upon our Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment. Now, customers can get new desktop technology into the hands of information workers more quickly and easily.” “myCOE supports mobile workers, e-business and diverse IT environments effectively by providing robust, secure, scalable ‘any to any’ Web-enabled access to core infrastructure and services,” said Carol Wyatt, global offering executive for EDS Desktop Services. “This new model of service delivery and end-user support meets the evolving needs of an agile enterprise.” |
