New services and software for Adaptive Enterprise
[UC Newsdesk 2003/11/11]

HP has introduced over 40 new management services and software products for its Adaptive Enterprise strategy to help users integrate heterogeneous technologies, cut information technology operations costs and increasingly automate responsiveness to real-time business demands. Advance Transformer, Arab National Bank, Avaya, National Bureau of Statistics of China and Perdata have all seen business benefits from using adaptive management.

The offerings includes cross-platform software for managing UNIX, Linux and Windows from a single console, pre-configured processes for IT service management and a management platform for Web services. HP's approach to adaptive management integrates people, process and technology to run IT as a business and automate the dynamic link between business and IT.

"Our business depends on the efficiency and quality of our information systems and IT services," said Sergey Mednov, chief information officer, Alfa Bank. "With the help of HP software and services, we are able to identify and assess operational risks, define service levels and synchronize our IT resources to match our business needs. Having immediate knowledge and insight into changing business conditions gives us the ability to respond quickly and intelligently to anything that could jeopardize the smooth delivery of services to our customers."

Other software vendors such as BEA, Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, TIBCO and webMethods are working with HP to jointly deliver enterprise solutions that enable users to make IT decisions within their rapidly changing, distributed business environments. In addition, 28 new independent software vendors have recently joined HP's solution alliance program to expand management capabilities available to enterprise users.

"This strategy of Adaptive management breaks the cycle of endless maintenance costs, so CIOs (chief information officers) can once again invest in innovation," said Nora Denzel, senior vice president, HP Adaptive Enterprise. "Management services like ITSM (IT Service Management) can help our customers create a lean, responsive IT operation, while management software provides the key to linking business processes and applications down into the raw hardware. For any CIO expected to do more with less, investing in management is a fast path to controlling costs while becoming a more adaptive enterprise."

Advance Transformer: "Our IT infrastructure is our business -- our supply chain processes more than 400,000 transactions every day. HP's adaptive management offerings provide us with a measurable business value by enhancing the health of our critical business services across the supply chain ensuring prompt order fulfillment from start to finish," said Julius Tomei, director of IT architecture, Advance Transformer. "This dynamic link between our business and IT has not only benefited our customers but enabled us to win three 'Supplier of the Year' awards from our major distributors/suppliers."

Arab National Bank: "As a commercial bank with over 117 branches throughout Saudi Arabia, ensuring that our IT infrastructure is managed seamlessly is a top priority for Arab National Bank from both a competitive and business process perspective," said Ahmad Asgan, general manager, operations and technology group, Arab National Bank. "HP's management solutions free us up to focus on our core business by minimizing our top IT management pain points and consolidating and improving the availability of our IT infrastructure while supporting our mission-critical applications and IT services."

Avaya, Inc.: "ITSM gives us a holistic view of our remotely managed IT resources, providing us with the ability to immediately assess, advise and act on specific events that could affect our entire infrastructure," said Mark Whatman, principal IT architect, Avaya, Inc. "HP's modular product and service portfolio provides a scalable adaptive management infrastructure with proven return on investment. HP's adaptive management solutions give us the tools and services we need to execute on our architectural roadmap - a roadmap that is designed to power the growth of our business."

National Bureau of Statistics of China: "We run a heterogeneous network of equipment and applications that, because of China's tremendous growth, is rapidly increasing in size and complexity," said Zhang Fumin, National Bureau of Statistics of China. "Previously our IT staff had to deal with large amounts of manual tasks, including daily administration, allocation of equipment and ensuring quality levels of service, which prevented us from achieving a high level of operational efficiency. The combination of HP OpenView and HP Services and service management allows our IT department to proactively monitor and manage our infrastructure, react strategically to changing service levels and automatically offer solutions. Now we have the methodology that guarantees a high degree of productivity for our staff, a smooth running network and quality service for our end users."

Perdata: "Most of our customers have a complex network of systems, databases and applications that require a streamlined, end-to-end management solution, and HP software is an integral part of the innovative solutions that Perdata has for the enterprise," said Sven Goldhardt, chief executive director, Perdata. "HP provides a combination of software, services and a standards-based reference architecture that optimizes business performance and provides the flexibility and scalability that enables our customers to adapt and react to changing business conditions."

In related news, HP has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Persist Technologies, Inc., a provider of software designed for long-term storage and access of reference information. The acquisition is expected to improve HP's ability to deliver complete information lifecycle management (ILM) solutions. ILM is part of HP's adaptive enterprise strategy to actively manage information from its creation through deletion and according to its changing business relevance over time.
